Some people advocate the term bit to refer to one microbitcoin (a millionth of a bitcoin).

History

Criticism

Many people think this term is confusing. For example "bit" is also a portmanteau of "binary digit", a basic unit of information used in computing that can have only one of two values (either 0 or 1).[1]
