Freecoin was originally an open source Bitcoin client forked from the original Bitcoin client. It has evolved into software designed to make other P2P currencies.[1]

Freecoin is distinct from FreeCoin.

History

  • The first commit in the original Freecoin repository to deviate from the original Bitcoin client was made on March 6, 2011, by Amir Taaki[2].
  • Freecoin was presented at the Chaos Communication Camp on August 2, 2011 in a lecture by Jaromil.[3].
