Freenode until 2021 has been the original home of IRC discussion and technical work on Bitcoin. In early 2021, Andrew Lee took direct control of the Freenode network and combined it with a number of other IRC networks already under his control. Within months, the majority of users of most of the old Freenode projects migrated to the new Libera network. Luke-Jr has since managed to convince the new Freenode opers that Bitcoiners should continue to maintain a successful presence on Freenode and that he could maintain it as a useful community.
